Maisie & Maude Vintage Store

Girl meets vintage, girl loves vintage. Girl becomes obsessed with vintage, vintage begins to take over every nook and cranny of the house, husband says — "Enough!" This could be a very sad ending to this love story but then it takes a triumphal twist and girl opens vintage store. YAY — happy ending.

People constantly come in and ask me where I get all of my fabulous finds. I guess I shouldn't say that it has been sitting in a corner of the dining room for 10 years but some of them have. One doesn't really get into this gig for the money. I sell what I love. Most of the items that I have were never purchased with the intent of financial gain. It was love at first sight. This morning I was ironing yards and yards (and yards) of a full 1950's skirt and was drawn in by the adorable kitschy pattern of the fabric. It wasn't work at all.

I adore the classic styles and lines of the 1940s and 1950s which are becoming increasingly difficult to find. I also love the whimsical and funky styles of the 1960s and 1970s. I wear them and and love to mix and match vintage pieces with new. The other day I had on a 50s beaded cardigan with a Breaking Bad t-shirt. Trust me -- it worked.

Did you know that chalk paint has been around since the 17th Century? The early Dutch Masters added chalk to their white lead paint in order to create an inexpensive basecoat. In Colonial New England, both chalk and milk were combined with pigments to make paints that had superior adhesion to surfaces like wood, ceramic, tin, and glass.

Maisie & Maude is pleased to offer Americana Decor® Chalky Finish paint, as well as a line of their specialty finishes, decorator stencils, brushes and accessories. This ultra-matte chalk paint requires no priming or sanding before you use it. Even a first-time painter can achieve fabulous results — from shabby chic to bohemian modern styles, and everything in between. Customize your new piece with waxes or varnishes to protect and compliment your paint finish. And, unlike Annie Sloan® branded waxes, Americana Decor® wax does not need to be reapplied to upkeep your protective finish.
