Holiday Traditions With Friends

Shoulder Someone Else’s Stress

We definitely know how it feels to be too busy; some of the best gifts we’ve ever received has come out of a tradition we started with a friend. Every year, we sit down and highlight some of the things in our lives cause us the most headaches, and the each person gives the gift of taking one big thing off of the other’s plate. In the past, we’ve cleaned out this friend’s closet, helped organize and plan her move, sorted through job postings for her, and even ghostwritten some of her thank-you notes after a big event. For her part, she’s waited on hold and helped us deal with our cable and electric companies, sorted through our messy fridge, helped us hunt for apartments, and even gone grocery shopping for us. Somehow, it feels good to deal with other people’s problems rather than our own, and we can always look at the situation with fresh eyes.
