National Foster Care Awareness Month

Listen here!

Today Melissa Montana talks with Vanessa White, a local foster care mother, about National Foster Care Awareness Month. Nearly 350 abused or neglected Allen County children are currently living in non-relative foster homes because it is unsafe for them to live in their own homes. State-wide, nearly 5,600 abused or neglected children live in foster homes. In Allen County there are 194 foster families licensed by the Indiana Department of Child Services who stand ready to nurture abused or neglected children and provide a place to sleep, nutritious food to eat, toys to play with and clothes to wear. During National Foster Care Month (May), we’d be happy to arrange for you to speak to a foster parent from your area to learn more about the important role these selfless caregivers play in protecting Indiana’s children. For more info www.in.gov/dcs
