May is Better Speech and Hearing Month, and local nonprofit HearCare Connection will present it’s annual walk for hearing on June 1, 2013 as part of it’s annual fundraiser and hearing loss awareness campaign.

	Did You Know…
That as many as 329 kids in Allen County may have some degree of hearing loss?
That 1 in 5 teens have hearing loss?
That 1 in 3 people over age 70 have hearing loss? 1 in 2 over age 80 do?
And HearCare Connection is the ONLY nonprofit hearing center in Northeast Indiana?

On June 1, 2013, the 2nd Annual Lend Me Your Ears will conclude with its walk for hearing and family fun fair at Freimann Square at 10am. Registration begins at 9am, and we encourage people to come out and support the cause for hearing. It is a family fair affair—we will have music, games, face-painting, a bounce house, cupcake and tshirt creation stations, food, and more available before and after the walk. Walkers can sign up to walk for $10 each, with children walking free with a paid adult. Seniors and Veterans will receive a $2 discount as well. Teams of up to ten walk for $50! The walk is an easy 2 mile walk around the City’s Circle of Hope. Early registration is now open on the website at www.hearcareconnection.org. This year’s walk will help “kick-off” a city wide campaign to Loop Fort Wayne, with a proclamation read by Mayor Tom Henry and a signature Star-Spangled Banner by Mr. Tom Didier. The Loop Fort Wayne Initiative will help encourage theaters and other venues to get Looped, following in the footsteps of Loop America across the nation, with a welcome for area press and others who may want to learn more about this looping initiative in our community.

All-STAR Mom 2013

There are so many things that only a mom can provide, that extra snuggle at the end of the night, that little kiss on a scraped knee. Mom's do so many things for their children that they often become second nature. But to your kids these little things make you an All-STAR Mom! You can help honor some All-STAR moms in our region by reading their story and voting for your choice. And check out the prizes the winners will receive below!

Congratulations to the 2013 All-STAR Mom!

Deeann: Selfless ~ Servant ~ Spunky

Deeann has four beautiful children, two son-in-laws (and one soon to join in November!), and a daughter-in-law. She has always put everyone in her life before herself, especially her children, grandchildren, and their families. From family members to church friends, she will welcome people into her home for months at a time. If someone has no where else to go, or is facing a tough situation, she will bring them into her home. Her life is a testimony to Jesus and I believe everyone who knows her will agree! She is able to put everyone before herself and take care of so many people because of her amazing walk with the Lord. Nominated by her daughter: Erika

Check out her big STAR 88.3 Surprise from Tyler Boss & Shelby Lynn

Congratulations to the two runner's Up

Sarah: Selfless ~ Encouraging ~ Servant

When Sarah's son Isaiah was 1 year-old, he was admitted to the Pediatric ICU, where it was discovered he has type 1 diabetes. His mom, Sarah, never left his side, not even to go to the cafeteria, and she has been a selfless and devoted mom to Isaiah ever since. Because Isaiah's condition requires constant complex monitoring of his blood sugar levels and diet, Sarah rarely gets to have any time to herself. Sarah's family all live in other states, and because her husband is a pastor, Isaiah's well-being is largely dependent on her. Yet in spite of this, Sarah never complains or questions why this had to happen to Isaiah; rather, she is an example and inspiration to other mothers that know her. Nominated by her friend: Beth on behalf of 3-year old Isaiah

Ronna: Giving ~ Humble ~ Prayerful

My sister has been a mom to many. First, she took care of me when my mom was sick, even did my dishes! Then when a divorce left her with two girls, she worked full time, but still found time to sew flags for the band they were in. And when my son had a cancer, she took care of my children when we traveled for radiation & chemo. When our mother was aging & needed help, we moved her nearby & Ronna is the one to take care of our mom. She's been a mom to a struggling family of five, by renting her home out to them. She has 4 grandsons and now helps with their care many times a week. She is an All-STAR mom to so many. Nominated by her brother: Ryan

Congrats to our other Top Nominees:

Dadrie: Selfless ~ Thoughtful ~ Sacrificial

My mother is an amazing role model to me. She has many trials that plague her daily - neuropathy and diabetes among them. I wipe at the tears on my face right now-- she does so much for me. She was going to school, but due to her schedule as a mother and a 3rd-shift worker, she took a break. She’s scraping pennies for me to attend Prom and to get me ready for college. It's always been my dream to make hers come true. She gave up her hopes and dreams for me. She is my foundation that has given me opportunity. Nominated by her daughter: Kenya

Kyley: Caring ~ Loving ~ Rock

Kyley is the mother to my granddaughter Cheyenne. Diagnosed at birth with Cystic Fibrosis, Cheyenne needs breathing treatments, sometimes four times a day, and daily medicine. Kyley puts herself last - Cheyenne always first. When Cheyenne is in the hospital with Cystic Fibrosis complications - Kyley does not leave her little girl's side. Kyley was 18 when Cheyenne was born, so her growing up years as a young adult (and college) were tossed to the side to care for her daughter. I am very proud of Kyley and the mother she has become. Nominated by her mom: Cheryl

Support Guatemala Trip

You can be a part of a life changing missions trip to Guatemala without even leaving the state.

We’re excited about the doors that have opened for a team of 24 people, led by STAR 88.3 and Compassion International to go on a missions trip to Guatemala, July 26 - Aug. 1. Each team member feels called to go and honored to get to serve these precious children and their families. These children live with their families on dirt floors, no running water and no electricity. They need the hope of Jesus and love from us to have a vision for their future to be better. All the team members are raising money for their expenses. If you feel led to support this outreach you can call Michelle Sinn at the station at 260-483-8236 or email her at michelle@star883.com. She will respond to you and get your information. Your gift is tax deductible when you write out a check to STAR 88.3. Write Compassion Intl. in the memo or Michelle will get back to you to get your credit card information processed. You can also send a check to STAR 88.3: 8 Martin Luther Drive, Ft. Wayne, IN 46845.

We thank you for your investment into these precious lives. We also would ask that you pray for this missions trip and the team that’s going. We will be sending reports and pictures when we go.

	Sharing HIS hope,

	Melissa Montana

And...if you missed out on our fall campaign, STAR 88.3 still invites you to sponsor a child in Guatemala. There are 125 children in one specific village that we know need sponsors, and we know this entire village can be changed by all of us here in Northeast Indiana. Click here to sponsor a child.

Watch the videos below to hear the stories of these special children. Our own Melissa Montana adopted her daughter, LaShay, from Guatemala 14 years ago. Click here to see the faces and learn more about these precious children that need your support. Below are pictures and video from Melissa's trip to Guatemala last summer.

When you sponsor a child, it makes prayer time before a good meal possible. So sweet!

The Lost Medallion in Theaters March 22

As a poignant example of the significant surge in popularity and demand for family-friendly media, MeThinx Entertainment presents a new action-packed film, The Lost Medallion: The Adventures of Billy Stone. An epic family movie event, the Lost Medallion features themes of friendship, teamwork, and good overcoming evil, all while teaching us the truth of their tremendous value. Carmike Cinemas at Jefferson Pointe in Fort Wayne will feature the Lost Medallion beginning Friday, March 22.

The journey of The Lost Medallion: The Adventures of Billy Stone commences as Daniel Anderson (Alex Kendrick – Courageous, Fireproof, Facing the Giants) visits a foster home to drop off a donation and is quickly roped into telling the kids a story. Daniel tells the tale of Billy Stone (Billy Unger – Lab Rats on Disney XD, American Treasure, You Again) and Allie (Sammi Hanratty – American Girl, A Christmas Carol), two 13-year-old friends who uncover a long-lost medallion and accidentally wish themselves back in time. In order for Billy to save Allie’s life, he must give up the lost medallion to the evil warlord, Cobra, (Mark Dacascos) who rules the island and its people. Now, in order to retrieve the medallion and save the island people from slavery, Billy and Allie must work together with a young arrogant king (Jansen Panettiere – The Perfect Game), his best friend, and a wise old man (James Hong – Kung Fu Panda, Chinatown, Blade Runner). Together, this unlikely group will learn not only how to work together, but when they do, great things can be accomplished.

“As much as I’ve been encouraged by the growth of the Christian film “industry “over the last several years, it’s been obvious that most films have been dramas targeting adults and occasionally teens. I’ve been silently hoping for an action adventure geared toward tweens. With “The Lost Medallion,” I get my wish, while potentially thousands of young people get their very own “Indiana Jones”-ish big screen motion picture to boot. What’s more, not only will they be entertained, they’ll get a few strong spiritual nuggets to ponder as well.” - Bob Waliszewski, Director, Plugged In: Focus on the Family

“The Lost Medallion is a wholesome movie that will take you back to a more innocent time, but will keep you on the edge of your seat. My kids loved it and have watched it again and again. You’ll be blessed by The Lost Medallion and I’m guessing that you will still be talking about it with friends and family for a long time after you leave the theater.” - Alex Kendrick, Co-Producer & Co-Director of Facing the Giants, Fireproof & Courageous
