Grand Prize Winner & 2012 All-STAR Mom!!: Jo Heine (nominated by her daughter, Dana) In January, my (Dana) three year old son was diagnosed with Leukemia and my husband and I were informed of complications with my current pregnancy.  My son and his one and a half year older sister were not able to return to day care.  My mom quickly committed to quitting her job and watching our kids on a daily basis for the next three years while our son undergoes chemotherapy. I have been ordered to bed rest for the duration of my pregnancy, so in addition to providing day care, my mom has become our full time grocery shopper, cook, house cleaner, launderer, lawn keeper, kid bather, etc.  Regardless of how tired she may be, she never backs down.  We couldn’t do this without her help and are sincerely thankful for my all-star mom. She continues to remind me that God has a master plan and we need to trust in God and take things one day at a time. (Jo pictured above with all her grandchildren!) Runner-Up - Jamie Gilson (nominated by husband Rich) Jamie and I have been married for nearly twelve years.  About two years ago, we learned that I have Asperger's Syndrome (an Autism Spectrum Disorder that causes me great difficulty in social interactions).  After my diagnosis, we realized that our youngest son also has it.  Despite difficulties and struggles, we both love each other and our children.  It would probably be easier on her if she took the kids and left, but she's determined to stay and, with God's help, work through it.   It has been a slow and painful learning process for the both of us; but, to me, she exemplifies showing true love and I cannot thank her enough for it. She has demonstrated what unconditional love is and she continues to help me develop the potential she sees in me and our children. Runner-Up - Lori Ianucilli (nominated by her daughter, Brittany) My biological mother passed away when I was six years old. Growing up, people walked in and out of my life, but the one person that stayed permanent was my neighbor/babysitter from across the street. My junior year of high school, my father moved to Florida and signed over guardianship papers to this woman and her family, and they took me in as their own. She sets a GREAT example for me and my three brothers. My mother is an all-star mom because she was there for me when I felt that no one else was. She took me as her own and stood by me when I literally hit rock bottom and felt there was no where to go. She provides a great example of the kind of mother I want to be someday. She has helped me find myself in Christ and has helped me to get where I am now, a freshman at Huntington University. (Lori pictured above on the day of Brittany's prom) Top Mom - Holly Witherby (nominated by her mother, Nancy) Holly is an amazing mother who has had a lot on her plate. She has an 8 year-old son who has autism. When she got the news, she did research, she tried to figure out WHY. She got him in therapy which meant driving 100 miles a day back and forth to Ft. Wayne. Dr. appointments, therapy, testing, etc. Holly has pushed and pushed for her son to get everything he is entitled to. She quit work to stay at home and help him get the support he needed. She has been so strong through all of this and just puts 100 percent into her boys' lives. She is definately an ALL STAR in my eyes! I don't know many mothers that do what she does! She has helped me to learn to accept what is given to you and that things happen so you learn to lean on God during difficult times. Top Mom - Nancy Rust (nominated by her daughter, Ashley) My mom is an All-Star because she has always been there for me no matter what. My mom is the perfect example of what it is like to show forgiveness. After being divorced for over 10 years from my father, she still allowed him to come around just for my sake. People didn't understand how she could let him come around, or why she still did things for him or took me to see him all the time. My father recently passed away and my Mother was the one there with him in the hospital when no one else was. She has shown me that with God's help, you can forgive anyone that has hurt you. She is always giving and never expecting anything in return. I dont think my mom ever missed any of my basketball and volleyball games all throughout college. She would travel hundreds of miles to see me even if I didnt play. When I am hurt, she is ALWAYS there and helped me become the woman of God that I am today. My mom is the world to me, she’s my best friend. Filmmakers can submit works for the film festival in the categories of narrative, documentary, animation in addition to a special one just for high school students.
